I just got back from an amazing long weekend in Baltimore and Washington DC with my mom! We went to Baltimore to watch my closest cousin get married and since we hadn’t been to the city before we thought signing up and participating in a 10k while we were there would be a good idea! It definitely was! I usually run 5k races around Los Angeles and had never really ran further than 5 miles…so I was a little scared. Therefore I looked up a training plan, and it really helped me reach my 1 hour goal!
Week 1
- Day 1: 30 minutes CT
- Day 2: 2 miles ER
- Day 3: 30 minutes CT or Rest
- Day 4: 2 miles ER
- Day 5: Rest
- Day 6: 3 miles LR
- Day 7: 2 miles brisk walk or Rest
Week 2
- Day 1: 30 minutes CT or Rest
- Day 2: 2.5 miles ER
- Day 3: 30 minutes CT or Rest
- Day 4: 2.5 miles ER
- Day 5: Rest
- Day 6: 4 miles LR
- Day 7: 2 miles brisk walk or Rest
Week 3
- Day 1: 30 minutes CT or Rest
- Day 2: 3 miles ER
- Day 3: 30 minutes CT or Rest
- Day 4: 3 miles ER
- Day 5: Rest
- Day 6: 5 miles LR
- Day 7: 2 miles brisk walk or Rest
Week 4
- Day 1: 3 miles ER
- Day 2: 30 minutes CT or Rest
- Day 3: 3 miles ER
- Day 4: Rest
- Day 5: 2 miles ER
- Day 6: Rest
- Day 7: Race day
I swear this plan works. I had NEVER ran further than 5 miles and running has never been something I enjoyed, but honestly this 10k in Baltimore changed my running life forever. I have never enjoyed running this much in my life. Since I had been training for so long, I didn’t have to walk and I was even able to look around and enjoy the beauty Baltimore had to offer. If youre visiting a town for a family event or vacation and it is your first time visiting the town, I highly recommend signing up or looking into any races or events they are having. We had a blast!
