So…it’s normal after a breakup to think about changing your hair but if I’ve learned anything from The Real Housewives it is wait…so that is what I did. After my breakup trying to resist changing my hair I kept seeing the cutest short haircuts all over Instagram and decided to take the plunge! 5 inches and a lot of hair inspos, pep talks, and online hair makeover apps later I did it and I couldn’t be happier! Here are some tips and tricks to get the best results from a big hair change and how to not regret it months later
- Research hair stylists… or if you see a person on the street or in your yoga class that you really like their hair ask them where they get it done. It is sometimes easier to work from referrals versus walking in blindly into a new salon.
- Try on new hair-dos with an app! I used Instyle Hairstyle Try-On and Hair Color Booth. Its more just a fun little online app that has celebrity hair style ie. The Rachel and combines a picture of yourself with a celebrity whose face shape matches yours. There are over 500 styles in the Instyle Hairstyel Try-On and its super fun!
- Come in with pictures of inspiration. As a natural blonde *wink wink I have been enhancing my color since 5th grade… yeah basic… but I know what looks best on my hair and which colors don’t. I go for more of a golden tone instead of whites and like highlights and lowlights mixed in and a more uneven natural look versus stripes… to each their own but the ombré slash balyage is not really the look I go for. Therefore, coming into the salon with a super specific idea of what you want is very helpful.
- It’s the day of the big cut and you’re kinda freaking out, but also stoked because you know what you want and you’re ready to shed the old and shine with the new! Remember to come in with your pictures and ideas for the color if you dye your hair and the style of cut that you are wanting. Try not to have too many expectations, know that change can be hard and even if you are excited and wanting this change it may be shocking at first! Take a lot of selfies and look up new and different ways to style your new hair!
