Ahh so… if you haven’t seen The Greatest Showman yet, stop what you are doing. I’m serious. Stop reading…and go to your nearest movie theater and go see this movie. Hugh Jackman is a dream Zendaya lives my tight rope circus performer dreams and Zac Efron fulfills any bedtime fantasy that I have ever had of him dancing with my flying through the air. Before the movie was premiered over Christmas I had the amazing opportunity thanks to my incredible agents to book the first ever live promo of a feature film. I learned the choreography from Ashley Wallen and filmed our commercial on the Warner Brother set. We got our hair done and costumes created by the same directors of the movie and got to work alongside over 100 of the most talented dancers I know in LA. Ending 2017 in this state truly was a blessing and I want to share any lessons that I learned on my way.
First, prepare to arrive to the studios early. When you get to the studios you have to park in a separate parking garage that is sometimes far away from where you will be all day and if you’re anything like me parking is difficult and I get lost easily. So preparing time for error is helpful. Once parked walk to a kiosks where they will give you your parking pass and your pass for the day. DO NOT LOSE THIS! You will be using these passes to get back to your car, get back to the lot and it’s what communicates to everyone where you are and where you need to be
Unlike me…arrive in clothes that you can walk around in, and dance in. Wear tennis shoes or closed toed shoes that are supportive and dress comfortably. My dumb ass showed up in slides and a dress that i thought i was going to film in. Not the smartest idea when you have a two hour rehearsal full out with technical choreography. I made it work, but definitely learned my lesson and showed up the next day in the proper attire. Live and learn
Bring hair and makeup tools even if they say they are going to do your hair and makeup. Every shoot is different and i have done many different types of shoots where they don’t want you to come in with makeup, some want you in a full face, there can be lots of different varieties. Prepare for anything and this way you will be ready for anything.
Day of the shoot find your moments. Being on the earner brothers set was such a dream and I cannot even begin to explain the history and magic that was happening around me. I got to set early. Went to crafty (where they feed you basically anything you would dream of) had my costume ready makeup done and after a run through that they filmed just in case something went wrong during the live promo we performed. Our live promo was during the only commercial during the live holiday production of a Christmas story (you’ll shoot your eye out) and we had 2 minutes a ton of choreography and over 100 dancers to nail this. If I do say so myself we did a pretty good job 🙂
