Coming back from Boise is always bittersweet. There is always someone I didn’t get to see, and so many things that I didn’t get to do. The older I get, the more time I spend enjoying the slow simple moments in my parents home drinking coffee and catching up on their lives. Now being back in LA, I feel fresh and inspired for this 2018 year! Every coming new year I try and spend a lot of time reflecting on my past year and go through the lessons I’ve learned, the things that I should improve on and the things that I have accomplished. We often forget the small moments of victory and I try to spend some time marinating on these little victories and remind myself that it is a marathon not a sprint.
With this new year I challenge us all to look deeper within and try to not start fresh and new but to start now and make better. It is on constant blast during the new year to be the new you, to find a fresh new year filled with new years resolutions like this past year never happened and it drives me crazy. Why do have to act like this past year never happened? Shifting my perspective has not only helped myself like the start of the new year better but it has also helped me start my new years with some fire under my ass to accomplish some things that I let go during the past few months and start some new and exciting aspirations. It also makes the transition from the holiday season not so drastic and gives me time to be proud of and learn from the past year with hope and determination for the year ahead. Some tips to keep yourself on track and to make this year your best year yet!
- Share your goals with your friends, randoms or anyone who is willing to listen- think of sharing your goals as putting your desires out into the universe. Sometimes people will be game and you can bounce off goals and ideas and inspiration or other times you’ll keep it short. If anything it will help you get even more specific with what you want to occur in this upcoming year and it will make you feel better about what you are striving towards.
- Set a timeline with each goal- goals are difficult and seem out of reach…like the bright red Ferrari and white Tesla SUV on my timeline…but sometimes you have to be super specific and even stretch each goal a little further than may seem realistic. First of all, remember you are not a muggle you are magic and anything is possible. Two, with goals that you know are attainable it is smart and strategic to place a timeline on each goal. I divide my goals into one month, three month, six month and one year sections. This keeps you accountable and I set reminders in my iPhone to keep me accountable. Try it! Lmk
- Reach 5ft to 50000ft in front of you- try to combine simple and not so simple goals into your list. With the combination you will gain some momentum by staying on track with simple goals, and then this will push you to stretch a little harder for those harder to reach goals
- Write everything down- Take the time to write down your goals. Anymore it is so easy to take notes on your iPhone, in the voice memo, on a receipt, literally anything. Take the time to write down some of the goals you want to accomplish. Include goals in your personal life, romantic relationship, personal relationships, career, family… anything you want. Go crazy!!
Remember this is your journey, this is your life and you want to be proud and you should be proud of the person you are today. We all can be better. We all can work harder, but that is the beauty of this whole journey each and every day we can take steps towards this better self. Do the work. Take the time. But most importantly enjoy the journey and relish in each and every step you take.
