How to slay your long days
Being a performer can be an extremely taxing job. Our days are filled with long rehearsals at the most random hours of the day and if you’re in Los Angeles or New York you have to add yourself some travel time. Basically I live out of my car which is a second closet for me…although this is slightly embarrassing it does help me stay organized and in general I am able to balance my stress and stay on top of my life. Here are some of the like hacks that I use to balance my day to day life!
Create a morning routine and stick to it! Mornings suck. There are no if ands or buts about it, but usually as a performer or even a busy milleniel this is the only time we may have for ourselves. I have found if I give myself an hour in the morning and actually get my ass out of bed to follow this routine my day is always better. (Here is a blog about my morning routine and some things I use to make my mornings easier). Secondly I meal prep. Knowing that I am going to have a busy day and relying on Starbucks protein boxes can not only get extremely boring, but it is also expensive. Taking the time on the weekends to go to the store and get food that you know you will enjoy during the week will help you save time, save money and get you excited about what you are eating (See my blog about meal prep options and snack foods I’m obsessed with ) Finally breathe. In this busy life of snapchat, instagram, texts emails, agents, parents, boys we can literally spend all day on a device talking to people reacting reacting reacting. This is not only stressful, but it also takes you out of the present moment. As performers it is key to be present and aware of your surroundings or what you are creating will never be enough or just simply never be satisfying. This is why I started setting reminders on my iphone throughout the day to breathe. I actually caught this on from my friend who had an Apple Watch that would remind her to stand up if she had been sitting for awhile and to take deep breaths. I don’t have an apple watch mainly because I’m too vain and I think they are hideous….but I loved the reminders to breathe so I set random reminders on my phone. When the reminder pops up….mine say Breathe Baby I take 6 deep breathes inhale for 6 exhale for 6. This takes me back to center and on some days is the most refreshing time of my day…Coffee always comes first…but the breathing does help! Try it! BREATHE BABY!
I hope some of these short tips are helpful. Remember as a performer and more simply as a human being on this planet we are here to serve. Serve your neighbor, love your neighbor but most importantly love yourself. When your life gets busy it is hard to step back and get grateful so by giving yourself some extra time in the morning, planning your meals for the week, and reminding yourself to breathe you will stay on top of each task and find some balance!
Let me know how these tips work for you! Do you have any specific tricks that you use on a busy rehearsal or work day? Let me know 🙂 I am always searching for ways to make my life more simple, more productive and more fabulous!!!
