This past week was International Women’s Day and it made me think about all of the incredible women in my life. My two grandmothers Barbara and Alberta who I got my names from. Jean Eleanor. My mother Diane who carried me for 9 months and raised me into the woman I am today. Jean Eleanor Schroeder. My many teachers, dance instructors, choreographers who created the professional dancer I am today. My aunts, fellow dancers, best friends, acquaintances, ladies at church and beyond who taught me to be forgiving, present and honest in all aspects of life. It is the combination of so many incredibly phenomenal women that have shaped my world views and helped create the woman I am today. I am not perfect. I have had my share of indiscretions, but I am so grateful for the women who came before me and it is with their bravery, beauty, grace, faith and love of their family, that has continued the legacy of their family and I just hope to do the same.
So, I honor my grandmother Alberta for her loyalty. For her love of God and her family and knowledge of the arts, curiosity for the world and joy in cinema, live theater and time with her family. I honor my grandma Decker for her childish optimisim. Her ability to cook the best Thanksgiving to date. Her curiosity to learn and expand, and her words of wisdom and phone calls. She keeps life and relationships in perspective and I am so blessed to have her in my life. My mom, the kindest most hardworking woman I know. A woman with intelligence beyond belief and the desire to always expand more. The most beautiful woman I know who continues to hold my fathers eye like no other, and light up every room with her smile. A competitive spirit who has always pushed me to want more, work harder and do my best. I continue to strive to be better and work harder for you mom. You are phenomenal.
To all of the women who continue to fight for those with less fortune than their own. To the women who raise their children to make the world a better place. To the women who choose to simply make the world a better place on their own. My world is filled with so many phenomenal women and I am inspired and humbled by you all.
Happy International Women’s Day everyone. hug your mama and praise God for the fierce females that grace this planet. Thank you for creating life.
