Flying is one of my favorite times to catch up on any reading that I have been meaning to do. Since April consisted of some long flights I was able to start and finish more books than normal this month!
Here is what I have been reading:
The Handmaid’s Tale is a novel of such power that the reader will be unable to forget its images and its forecast. Set in the near future, it describes life in what was once the United States and is now called the Republic of Gilead, a monotheocracy that has reacted to social unrest and a sharply declining birthrate by reverting to, and going beyond, the repressive intolerance of the original Puritans. The regime takes the Book of Genesis absolutely at its word, with bizarre consequences for the women and men in its population.
The New Rules of Love Sex & Dating by Andy Stanley; In The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating, Andy Stanley explores the challenges, assumptions, and land mines associated with dating in the 21st century. Not for the faint of heart, The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating challenges single Christ followers to step up and set a new standard for this generation!
Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins ; The creator of acclaimed personal achievement programs and the author of the bestselling “Unlimited Power” reveals the proven steps to self-mastery. Robbins shares the secrets of his exclusive “Date with Destiny” seminars, describing how unconscious beliefs control our behavior and how we can make immediate changes to accomplish our goals.
Magnetic Charisma by Patrick King; Develop your own personal gravity with concrete skills to stand out, be noticed, and captivate people. If you (1) walk into a room and feel invisible, or (2) want to ensure you make a powerful personal impact – NEWSFLASH: you need better advice than “fake it ‘til you make it” or “just be yourself.” Confidently approach and excel in any social setting. Ill Be Gone In The Dark by Michele McNamara; A masterful true crime account of the Golden State Killer – the elusive serial rapist turned murderer who terrorized California for over a decade – from Michelle McNamara, the gifted journalist who died tragically while investigating the case. “You’ll be silent forever, and I’ll be gone in the dark.” For more than 10 years, a mysterious and violent predator committed 50 sexual assaults in Northern California before moving south, where he perpetrated 10 sadistic murders. Then he disappeared, eluding capture by multiple police forces and some of the best detectives in the area. Three decades later Michelle McNamara, a true-crime journalist who created the popular website TrueCrimeDiary.com, was determined to find the violent psychopath she called “the Golden State Killer”. Michelle pored over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was….. OBSESSED.
